Questions
Does Saymondo work without an internet connection?
Yes. After a one-time download of about 3.5 GB, speech recognition, translation and reading aloud run on your phone. Translating face to face never needs an internet connection.
Which languages does Saymondo support?
English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Dutch, plus 11 languages in beta: Traditional Chinese (Taiwan), Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Hindi, Arabic, Turkish, Ukrainian, Polish, Swedish and Romanian.
Is it AI? Does my voice go to the cloud?
Saymondo uses AI models for speech recognition, translation and the reading voice, and they run on your phone, not in the cloud. Your speech and your conversations are not sent to us and are not saved. The app goes online only to download language packs, to sign in to an optional account and, in the Google Play version, for the Saymondo Pro subscription. Like any machine translation it can be wrong: for health, legal or safety matters, confirm with a person you can rely on.
Does the other person need the app?
No. Only you need Saymondo. Lay your phone between you: the other person reads their own half of the screen and holds their own button to answer. They don't install anything or sign up.
Can I use it in a taxi or on the subway without signal?
Yes. Once the language packs are downloaded, recognition, translation and reading aloud run on the phone, so it works with no signal, without roaming and in flight mode. A lot of background noise can make recognition less accurate.
What phone do I need?
An Android phone with Android 12 or later. 8 GB of memory is recommended, and about 3.5 GB of free space for the default language packs.
How much does Saymondo cost?
Every feature is free for 3 days. After that you can translate 20 sentences a day for free. Saymondo Pro, a monthly or yearly subscription through Google Play, removes the daily limit and adds female and male reading voices.
